Ichan-Kala Fortress (open-air museum) which is a UNESCO World heritage site. It is the old part of the city, surrounded with wall and turned into the State Historical Archaeological Museum. Here on the vast territory of 26 hectares the exotic image of the eastern city has been preserved. In Itchan-Kala there are about 60 historic buildings.
Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah (1876) – is a bright sample of culture of architecture of that epoch and takes a special niche in the history of Khoresm. Named after Muhammad Rahim-khan, who was one of the most educated representatives of Kungrat dynasty ever to rule in Khiva since 1770.
Mukhammad Aminkhan Madrasah (1851-1854) – is the largest madrasah not only in Khiva but in the Central Asia. The two-storied building occupies the area of 72 to 60 meters and has 125 khudjras (cells), intended for 260 students.
Juma Mosque (XVIII century end) – is an original building without portals and cupolas, without galleries and yards. It is 55×46 m. The interior space is a single hall, the flat ceiling of which is supported by 215 wooden pillars.
Kalta-Minor (1855) – it has become the real symbol of the city. Foundation of the minaret is 15 meters, diameter at the foundation is 14,5 meters and the height is 29 meters. But this massive tower has only third part of the project height. Its unique decoration strikes an imagination: the minaret is completely covered with the glazed tile and majolica.
Tash-Khovli Palace (XIX century) – summer residence of Khiva khans. The original synthesis of architecture and monumental decorative art in the creative work of the Khorezm masters are vividly represented by this palace.

Continue city tour: Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum (1701) – If blue domes as the symbol of the eastern architecture can be often found in Samarkand and Bukhara, there is only one blue dome in Khiva. It decorates the tomb of Makhmud Pahlavan, a famous poet and warrior of the XIV century. In the mausoleum of Pahlavan Mahmud people pray and drink the holy water.
Islam-Khoja minaret (XX century) – is the highest minaret in Uzbekistan. The height of the minaret 6 meters, diameter of the fundament is 9.5 at the base.

Kalyan Minaret (1127) – City symbol of Bukhara. The minaret was designated to summon Muslims to prayer five times a day. It still dominates the skyline of Bukhara, astonishing all who see it with its magnificent and flawless shape.
Kalyan Mosque (XV century) – The layout of the Djuma Mosque (named the Kalyan Mosque) is traditional: a rectangular courtyard with a tall and large maksura room on the west side.
Miri-Arab Madrasah (XVI century) – is one of the best Bukhara architectural school monuments. Architecture and décor of Miri-Arab distinguish by highest culture and taste.
Magoki-Attori Mosque (XII century) – Islamic mosque dating back to Zorastrianism. It is an example of an urban mosque in a residential quarter
Ulugbek madrasah (1417) – the most ancient of three madrasahs, built by Ulugbek.
Abdulazizkhan madrasahs (1651-1652) – luxurious decoration. The building is typical by composition, with four-ayvans yard, but with unordinary divergent fan of hudj groups after side ayvans and cupola buildings on the central axis
Trading domes – Toki-Sarrafon Trading Dome (was currency exchange center of Central Asia), Telpak Furushon Trading Dome (first was book selling place, later selling caps), Timi Abdullakhan Trading Dome (carpets and fabrics were sold), Toki-Zargaron Trading Dome (were selling jewelries)
Lyabi Hauz Ensemble (XVI-XVII centuries) – historical source of water supply in Bukhara. It is formed with three large monumental buildings: Kukeldash Madrasah (1568-1569) in the north, khanaka (1619-1620) and Nodir Divan-begi in the west and in the east.
Chor-Minor Madrasah (1807) – “Four Minarets” – The towers’ décor elements are believed to reflect the religious-philosophical understanding of the world’s four religions.

Legendary Ark Fortress (IV century BC) – The symbol of the state power. It was a residence of Bukhara khans
Bolo-Khauz Mosque (1712) – it is the only preserved monument on the Registan Square. The complex consists of the reservoir, Friday mosque and minaret. The most ancient part of the complex is the pond (Khauz), which is called as Bolo-Khauz (“Children’s reservoir”).
Ismail Samani mausoleum (IX century) – It was erected as a family crypt immediately after the death of Ismail Samani’s father. Mausoleum is full of magnificence and feeling of moving from this world to the world that lasts forever.
Chashma-Ayub mausoleum (XII-XVI centuries) – “Saint Job’s Source”. A legend has it that the Bible prophet Job, having visited this land, decided to help the people who suffered from water shortage in the desert. He struck the ground with his stick, making a source of crystal clear water sprang at that place.

Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa (XIX century mid) – summer residence of Bukhara’s last emir. The Bukhara architects having trained in Russia managed to combine oriental and western styles in their creation.
Mausoleum of Bakhoutdin Naqshbandi (1544) – is one of the most important Muslim shrines. The Mausoleum of Saint Bakhouddin Naqshbandi is considered as the Central Asian Mekka. Believers from different muslim countries come here to ask for the fulfilment of wishes and healing.

Gur Emir Mausoleum (XV century)– authentic shrine of Tamerlane. This majestic complex consisted of a khanaka, the madrasah of Muhammad Sultan – grandson of Amir Timur, and, later, tombs of Amir Timur himself and his descendants. Gur Emir was a prototype for famous samples of architecture of the Great Mughal: Humayun Mausoleum in Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra, built by Timur descendants, who ruled northern India.
Registan Square (XV-XVII centuries) – during centuries it was the center of Samarkand. The word Registan means “sand place”. The ensemble consists of three Madrassah: Ulugbek Madrassah (15th century), Sher – Dor Madrassah (17th century) and Tilla-Kari Madrassah (gold covered) (17th century).
Bibi Khanum Mosque (1399-1404) – The majestic blue domes of the Bibi-Khanym Mosque are the unusual sight. It takes one’s breath even from understanding the scale of construction of this monument, impressing with its size and beauty. In antiquity the dome of this mosque was compared with the dome of heaven and the arch of portal – with the Milky Way.
Siyob Bazaar (on Mondays it’s closed) – is a largest trading center of Samarkand. Mostly here you can find national bread, fruits, vegetables, sweets and a lot more
Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis (XIV-XV centuries) – consists of rows of refine sparkling blue colors tombs. Shakhi Zinda consists of eleven mausoleums, which were built one after another in XIV – XV centuries. Shakhi Zinda is the burial place of royal persons and nobles. But the main mausoleum from which the necropolis starts seems to be the imaginary grave of Prophet Muhammad’s cousin, Kusama Ibn Abbas. The complex was called “Shakhi Zinda” that means in Persian “The Living King”.
Ulugbek Observatory (1428-1429) – The astronomical miracle of medieval Uzbekistan. Observatory was unique construction for its time.The basis of observatory was giant goniometer vertical circle), radius of circle was equal 40,212 meters, and the length of arc was 63 meters

Mausoleum of Saint Daniel (1900, but grave was long earlier) – There is hardly any place in the world is a where Muslim, Christian and Jew come to pray. But this Tomb of the Old Testament Prophet Daniel, also known as Daniiel, or Doniyar.
Then drive to Konigil village to explore traditional way of making Samarkand paper from mulberry.

Trekking in Uzbekistan combines hiking and camping in a single trip. A backpacker hikes into the backcountry to spend one or more nights there, and carries supplies and equipment. A backpacking trip includes overnight stay in the wilderness. People are drawn to backpacking primarily for recreation, to explore places that they consider beautiful and fascinating, many of which cannot be accessed in any other way. A backpacker can travel deeper into remote areas, away from people and their effects, than a day-hiker can. However, backpacking presents more advantages besides distance of travel. Many weekend trips cover routes that could be hiked in a single day, but people choose to backpack them anyway, for the experience of staying overnight. These possibilities come with disadvantages. The weight of a pack, laden with supplies and gear, forces traditional backpackers to travel more slowly than day-hikers would, and it can become a nuisance and a distraction from enjoying the scenery. Transfer to Chimgan mountains. The active part of the route starts from the Melovoy pass (1800 m), not far from the complex Chimgan. The rise of the trail, and here we are at the pass – Tahtajailoo (2000 m). We admire the surrounding views. After a short photo session descent to the river Mramorniy, visit to the waterfall on the way, visit the canyon with outputs relic fossilized shells.

Lunch and rest for 1 hour.
After lunch, a short climb to the pass Urtakumbel (1850 m) and descent to the valley of the river Beldersay. Here, on the spacious meadow under a huge juniper, place of our first bivouac (1720 m).

Continuing the route, overcoming the ascent to the pass Chetkumbel (1880). It offers a wonderful view of the Big Chimgan – the dominating top of the area.

We pass the ridge towards Kumbel pass (2550 m), here on the ridge is another attraction of the area – on the rocks with “desert varnish” knocked out numerous petroglyphs of Neolithic period (2400 m) – the highest point of our route. To the south are piled spurs of Chatkal ridge, we’ll see the legendary plateau Pulatkhan with kilometer faults. Further our path lies in a picturesque valley Nurekata. Overnight near the river on a large meadow (1400m).

Very tense day. Climbing along the southern slopes to the summit of Greater Chimgan Peak (3,309 m), descent to the Komsomolec pass (2700 m). Camp 3.

Continue descent along Nurekata valley. Admiring the path is very unusual rocky outcrops, huge walnut trees and silvery poplars (colossal size of some specimens are staggering) with grazing horses under them.

There are summer pasture shepherds, here and there through Nurekata transferred suspension bridges. And here is the confluence of Nurekata and Aksakata rivers and the picturesque bridge of huge logs. Go through the small pass to the mountain village Shuldak (1050 m). Here we take the vehicle, 30 minutes moving down the valley Aksakata with colorful panoramic sunsets is a worthy end of our route.

State Natural Park Ala-Archa is located 41 km
from Bishkek on the northern slope of the Kyrgyz
Range at an altitude of 1600–4860 m. a.s.l. It
covers an area of 2280 ha. The Ala-Archa River
flows through the park. You will see landscapes
of foothill steppes and mountain forests, where
more than 600 species of plants grow, animals:
Arkhar, Siberian roe deer, Capricorn, birds: stone
partridge, chilli, cupcake, and Red Book animals:
Turkestan lynx, golden eagle, snow leopard.
As well as a convenient spot for picnicking
weekenders, the park is also a magnet for hikers,
horse trekkers, skiers in addition to the skilled
mountain climbers looking for challenging ice,
rock and mixed routes. The most highest peaks of
the Ala-Too Mountains rise out from the Ak-Sai
glacier, including Korona (4860m),

Bishkek, formerly Pishpek and Frunze, is the capital
and largest city of Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyz Republic).
Bishkek is also the administrative center of the Chuy
Region. The province surrounds the city, although the
city itself is not part of the province, but rather a
province-level unit of Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is situated
at an altitude of about 800 meters (2,600 ft), just off
the northern fringe of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, an
extension of the Tian Shan mountain range. These
mountains rise to a height of 4,855 meters (15,928 ft).
The Chui River drains most of the area. Bishkek is
connected to the Turkestan-Siberia Railway by a spur
line. Bishkek is a city of wide boulevards and
marble-faced public buildings combined with numerous
Soviet-style apartment blocks surrounding interior
courtyards. There are also thousands of smaller
relatively built houses, mostly outside the city center.
Streets follow a grid pattern, with most flanked on
both sides by narrow irrigation channels, watering

It is a large minaret in the Chuy Valley in Tokmok,
70 km from the capital and 1,5 hour drive.
The tower, grave markers, some earthworks and
the remnants of a castle and three mausoleums,
is all that remains of the ancient city of
Balasagun, which was established by the
Karakhanids at the end of the 9th century. The
tower was built in the 11th century and was used
as a template for other minarets. An external
staircase and steep, winding stairway inside the
tower enables visitors to climb to the top. It is
one of the oldest architectural construction in
Central Asia.
The tower was originally 45 m (148 ft) high.
However, over the centuries a number of
earthquakes caused significant damage to the
structure. The last major earthquake in the 15th
century destroyed the top half of the tower,
reducing it to its current height of 25 m (82 ft).
The entire site, including the mausoleums, castle
foundations and grave markers, now functions as
museum and there is a small building on the site
containing historical information as well as
artifacts found at the site and in the
surrounding region.

Kegety gorge is located 90 km from the Bishkek
and 30 km from Burana. Trek to The waterfall

Medeu – is an outdoor speed skating and bandy
rink. It is located in a mountain valley (Medeu

of 10.5 thousand square meters of ice and utilizes
sophisticated freezing and watering system to
ensure the quality of the ice.
Also Medeu is a picturesque gorge. There are
several hiking trails that originate from the Medeu
main bus stop. There is access to the Shymbulak
Skiing resort from the Medeu cable car station.

Tashkent metro began to be built in the 1970s, it became the very first transport system of this type in Central Asia. Today, the metro is not only a convenient and fast means of transportation, but also one of the main city attractions. The decor of the stations are often present national motifs. In Soviet times, the Tashkent metro was considered one of the most picturesque in the entire Union.

The square is located in the very center of the city near the place where until the middle of the XIX century the palace of the Kokand khans was located. After the establishment of the Russian protectorate, the residence of the Governor General was built here. In Soviet times, the area was renamed in honor of V.I. Lenin. In 1991, a monument to the leader of the proletariat was dismantled and a monument of Independence was placed.

The square was founded in 1882 by order of the Turkestan Governor-General M.G. Chernyaev. In its center is a monument to Amir Temur (Tamerlane) – an outstanding statesman of the XIV century, who created a huge empire. Until 2009, there was a small park around the monument, but after reconstruction it turned into an area with fountains and green lawns. This place has several interesting sights.

A complex of religious buildings erected in honor of one of the first Islamic preachers in Uzbekistan – Hazrati Imam. It consists of a cathedral mosque, two madrassas, a mausoleum and another mosque Namazgoh. The structures were erected at different times from the 16th to the 21st centuries. The oldest is the Barakhan madrasah built in 1532, the newest is the Muslim temple of 2007, built on the initiative of President I. Karimov.

Sheikhantaur complex An architectural ensemble, which is one of the most important monuments of Uzbekistan. Sheikhantaur is a memorial complex dedicated to Sheikh Howendi Tahur. It consists of the tomb of at-Tahur of the 14th century, another tomb of the 15th century, where the remains of Kildyrgach-biya, and other architectural monuments.

A religious educational institution of the 16th century, which for many years served as the cultural and educational center of the city. In the XVIII century a caravanserai was placed here, in the XIX – a Khan’s fortress. There is a legend that at that time unfaithful wives were thrown from the walls of Kukeldash in bags and also carried out other public executions in the fortress. After the restoration of the madrasah building in the 20th century, it was returned to its original functions.

The Russian Orthodox Church was built in 1878 at the expense of the Governor General and members of the Christian community of Tashkent. From 1933 to 1945, the church was closed, but then it was again handed over to believers and re-consecrated. The building was renovated in the 1990s. During the work, the surrounding audience was ennobled and the church bell tower was rebuilt.

The history of the museum began in 1927 with the organization of an exhibition of works by Uzbek masters. Gradually, the exhibits became larger and the collection required a separate building. So in 1937 the “Museum of Handicraft Crafts” appeared. His collection consists of carpets, jewelry, textiles, national costumes, ceramics and other examples of folk art, carefully preserved for posterity.

The collection was founded in 1918. At first it consisted of works of art, furniture, tableware, sculptures and interior items confiscated from local aristocrats after the revolution. In subsequent years, the collection was regularly replenished with funds from other museums. Today, the gallery, among other things, exhibits paintings by Russian and Western European artists of the 16th-19th centuries.

This museum is considered one of the oldest and largest in Uzbekistan. Its funds contain more than 250 thousand exhibits. The collection is dedicated to the history of Uzbekistan from the Stone Age to the present. The museum appeared thanks to the initiative of a group of scientists in 1876. At the beginning of the 20th century, he even took part in international exhibitions in Milan and Paris. In 1970, the collection moved to a modern building on Rashidova Ave.

The exposition is dedicated to the period of the reign of Timur and the dynasty founded by him. The museum opened in 1996 thanks to President I. Karimov in honor of the 660th anniversary of the birth of Tamerlane. Its main exhibits are a copy of the Samarkand Kufic Quran (Quran Usman) and a panel with scenes from the life of the famous commander. The museum also exhibits various archaeological finds.

Alisher Navoi Musical Theater, named after the national poet Alisher Navoi. The scene opened in 1939 with the staging of the Uzbek opera Buran. The building of the theater was erected by the architect A.V. Shchusev. The decoration was attended by folk artists: H. Boltaev, A. Khudaibergenov, U. Muradov and others. The construction is noteworthy in that each foyer has its own design, reflecting the characteristics of different regions of Uzbekistan.

The building is located in the center of Tashkent near the Amir Temur Square. It was erected at the end of the 19th century in a popular modern style. The architectural appearance of the palace is knocked out of the familiar city landscape, since the Uzbek capital did not build structures in a similar style. The building was intended for Prince N.K. Romanov, the grandson of Nicholas I. His Grace was serving a link in Tashkent for the theft of family jewelry.

TV tower is Television tower with a viewing platform. It is the second largest in Central Asia after the pipe of the Kazakh hydroelectric station. The height of the tower is 375 meters. The structure was built in the period 1978-84, in 1985 it worked at full capacity. Inside, at an altitude of 94 meters, there is a circular observation platform for tourists, a few meters higher – the Koinot restaurant, which consists of two levels.

The oriental market is one of the oldest not only in Uzbekistan, but throughout Central Asia. It is located in the old part of Tashkent under the name Eski Shahar. The bazaar gained popularity even during the descendants of Tamerlane, as it was an intermediate point on the Great Silk Road. All types of goods are sold at Chorsu: products, clothes, products of local artisans, household supplies and other things.

Charyn Canyon is a canyon on the Sharyn River in Kazakhstan (200km east of Almaty, close to the Chinese border). The canyon is roughly 90 km in length. It is part of the Charyn National Park (established on 23 February 2004). Over time, the canyon has gained colorful formations of varying shapes and sizes. Though it is much smaller than the Grand Canyon, it has been described as being equally impressive.
For a million years, wind and water sculpted Charyn’s red sandstone to form today’s fantastical shapes and shadows. Besides sightseeing and photography, the Charyn area offers opportunities for walking, and rafting, as well as off-road jeep touring, and simply enjoying beautiful nature.
The Kazakh steppe is freezing cold in the winter, and sizzling hot in summer. Charyn Canyon is not an exception (-30° Celsius in the depths of winter to +40° on the hottest of summer days).
